Burna Boy shuts down the O2 Arena
One of Nigeria’s most popular artists, Burna Boy, managed to shut down the 02 Arena in London last night during his ‘Space Drift’ gig. Fans started streaming into the venue way before the gates were opened at 6 pm. By 9.30 pm, when Burna got on stage, the venue was full to capacity, with hundreds of fans still stuck outside the venue.
Before Burna got on stage at exactly 9 pm, the event hosts Haka and Remel London kept the crowd hyped up with the help of DJs BillGates and Young Chidzy.
At 9.30 pm, when the full arena was charged up, Burna kept the event’s theme alive by making a dramatic entrance in a ‘Spaceship’. He also wore a white NASA jacket and boots, with a red outfit inside.
The first few minutes of his performance was well dramatized, with the large screen showing breaking news reports of a UFO landing from space, causing anxiety and excitement at the same time as the crowd went wild.
Backed up by a full live band and background singers dressed in white, Burna first performed his hit ‘Level Up’ featuring Youssou Ndour. Then it was hit after hit.
In another dramatic move, Burna paused his performances to introduce several artists on stage who did one song each. Among the artists, Burna introduced include Omah Lay and Headie One. As most people predicted UK artist Stormzy to come on stage since they have two hit songs together, it was time to wrap up at the show just a few minutes past 11 pm.
Generally, the organization of the event was well coordinated. There were several security checks before gaining entry to the arena, where fans were asked to produce their Covid-19 passes as well as ticket scanning. Everything seemed well organized, and no major incidences to report about.
